AV Dance Studio ’81 Company Team

It’s a new year of competitions and we have had a great start.  This year we have grown into a Company Team of 15 dancers.

Kids Company 7 dancers: Peyton Brockbank, Jasmine Chamberlin, Danielle DeGuzman, Cambree Gage, Abigail Keiser, Shylah Metter and Alaya Mitchell

Junior Company 4 dancers: Eyden Graham, Makenzie Kern, Winona Thomas and Sophia Wilson

Senior Company 4 dancers: Madyson Graham, Camille Loria, Erin Silva and Alicia Springer

The Company team went to their first competition April 10th in Long Beach and they attended Dancers, Inc.  It was our first  time attending Dancers, Inc. and we loved it.  It was a nice small competition, which was great cause it was some of the girls first competition, everyone was so nice and supportive of the new competitors.

It was a great way to start out our competition season.  The girls placed in every dance with Golds and some even won 1st overall in their age category and dance category.  Our large group dance titled “The Color of Ribbons” even won a special judges award titled “Precious Moments.”

Here are some of the thoughts from the girls on attending their first competition.

“I thought the competition was overall good, even thought I was under the weather and couldn’t perform to my best abilities. “  Alicia Springer 15 yrs old 3rd year on Company

“I was excited to dance the stage.  I was not nervous at all.  I’m ready for more.”  Abigail Keiser 6 yrs old 1st year on Company

This weekend May 13-15 we will have our second competition at Star Power.  The girls are I are excited, wish us luck.

AV Dance Studio ’81 @ Poppy Festival

The 20th Anniversary Poppy Festival was held at Lancaster City Park April 16th & 17th and we had our dancers attend.  Here is a video of our competition team showing off some of their moves.  Our kids company performed “Dig A Little Deeper” and our Jr. & Sr. Company performed “Run Forest Run.”

The girls have a great time performing locally; they really get excited when the community can come out and see what they’ve been working on.

Barbara, who celebrates her birthday on November 15th, began her dance studies at the age of six in a town called Little Silver, New Jersey. Barbara shares her memories:
“My teacher wore a stiff tutu and carried a long pointer.  There                                                   was a gallery where the parents sat to watch the class. If you didn’t point your toes, the teacher would zap you on your foot with her                                    pointer!  It didn’t take too many of those “zaps” to remember to point                  your toes.  How times have changed!”
Barbara has always loved to dance, but admits she is not much of a sports person.  She recalls that while playing dodge ball, she was usually not hit by the ball, but instead would run into it!  So, after her two sons grew past their years of sports, Barbara enrolled in dance class for exercise…and the rest is history!
In addition to dance, Barbara also has a passion for Theatre.  She works mainly with Cedar Street Theatre, as both a director and actress. Barbara recently won a Shining Star award for her directing skills in the play “Doubt”. Barbara enjoys watching and performing musicals, and loves to go to the theatre.
Barbara’s other interests include gardening, decorating and shopping. Barbara claims to be a world class shopper and can have fun in any store; grocery, hardware, clothing…you name it!
